Mere mention of the word Blacksmith recalls long-forgotten histories…a dark age, rife with hot iron forges, red-hot iron, pounding hammers and flying sparks. At AMA in Rochester, NY, we take pride in utilizing the perfect mix of old-world blacksmith techniques, modern technological advances and an in-depth study of each metals’ fundamental principles.

True Artisan Craftsmanship

Nothing is rushed…ever, as evidenced by the work of our lead blacksmith, Demetrius. Over the past two decades he developed and refined his craft working on his own projects and under the tutelage of some of New York’s most distinguished master blacksmiths. The primary focus of Demetrius’ training and our work is in architectural metal. Architectural ironwork is best thought of as a balance between function and artistic design.

Modern wrought iron work is generally a combination of old-world design and modern fabrication.  Lost along the way are traditional blacksmithing techniques that are easily replaced by machines and mail order manufactured parts.  Along with that goes the art of the blacksmith and the character and definition of truly handmade work.  Our goal is to include as many traditional methods and techniques as possible on each project we undertake.

Shared Vision

Additionally, we believe, that perfection only occurs in blacksmithing when the finished piece reflects, equally, the intentions and imagination of the client, with the artistry of those at the helm of its creation.  At AMA, we make an effort to listen more than we speak and to gain a thorough understanding of what the client hopes to accomplish.  Only then can we create, one-of-a-kind, handmade items of unmatched quality and design.
